Webster's New Riverside Dictionary defines a mentor as "a person
looked upon for wise advice and guidance."
This is particularly true for beekeeping because no-one can tell you
how to keep bees.  There are many ways to do nearly everything
with bees, not one set recipe that works for everyone all the time.
That is why a good mentor shows you how they do things but
explains or shows you other methods as well.  You have to try them
out and see what works for you.
The Pickens County Beekeepers have a list of beekeepers who are
willing to be mentors, showing you how they keep bees and
helping you learn how to keep your own.  All you have to do is call
one of them and ask -

Dwight Porter             593-1535   (anywhere)
Les & Denise Lawson   878-7592   (Table Rock area)
These are some of the people that are willing to help you learn about
keeping bees.  All of them had mentors in the past, some still have
them.  All know the value of having a friend to ask those pesky
questions all of us come up with.  And in the Pickens County
Beekeepers Association, we have enough people with experience
and learning that what one might not know, someone else will.  And
we all share our knowledge with each other - beekeeping is quite a
learning experience.  And you never stop learning about them, there
are also all those little tricks of the trade that you only learn by long
experience or accident...
Come out and join us, keep the learning going -
