Beekeepers Association of Northern Virginia; Practical Beekeeping for
Beginners; A series of weekly classes starting in Jan. /Feb., 2011 for about 2
months.  Three Classes- 1st night is “Meet and Greet.” 1) Tuesday (7pm)
starts Jan. 31st at Luther Jackson Intermediate School: 3020 Gallows Rd.,
Falls Church 22042; 2) Wed. (7pm) starts Feb. 1st at St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes
School: 400 Fontaine St. Alexandria 22302; or 3) Sat. morning (8:30am) at
the Centreville library, 14020 St. German Drive, Centreville (starts Feb. 5th).

Class size is limited and registration fills up so please register early. Classes
are open to adults and children (age 9 +) who are interested in keeping
honeybees. Books are included in the fee ($100 per family unit) and include:
Diane Sammataro, The Beekeepers Handbook (4th ed.), Mid Atlantic
Apiculture (MAAREC) Beekeeping Basics & Honey Bee Parasite, Pests,
Predators & Diseases as well as handouts & membership in the local
beekeeping association. Classes are taught by experienced beekeepers and
include info. on buying equipment & live bees to start hives.

starts Mon. 23 Jan 2012; Practical Beekeeping for Beginners

Piedmont Beekeepers Assn will be offering 2 sessions of Practical Beekeeping
for Beginners. This is an 8 + week class.
Two separate classes will be held:
Lynchburg area: Monday evenings, starting Jan 30,  James River Day
School, 5039 Boonesboro Rd, Lynchburg, 7-9 pm,
Franklin County area: Tuesday evenings, starting Jan 31, Turkey
Ridge Farm, 900 Baileys Cabin La., Boones Mill, VA, 7-9 pm,

$90.00 tuition covers one family unit and a set of includes 3 textbooks,
notebook with handouts and additional materials, reference CD and one year of
membership in local bee club.
Topics covered will include: Getting started with bees, Seasonal management,
Integrated Pest Management techniques to monitor and sustain healthy colonies,
Equipment and supplies necessary, options for acquiring bees to get started.

The Beekeepers Guild of Southeast Virginia; three consecutive Saturdays,
February 11, 18 and 25, 2012; 3-day Short Course for Beginning Beekeepers.
Where:  Virginia Wesleyan College
          Norfolk, Virginia.
The course consists of lectures and hands-on demonstrations with an
emphasis on sustainable, chemical-free practices.  An optional fourth
Saturday open hive demonstration in the bee yard followed by a graduation
luncheon is included.  This course fulfills the educational requirement of six
(6) hours of classroom instruction in introductory beekeeping training for the
qualified level of the Virginia Master Beekeeper Program.
