PRESIDENT’S NEWSLETTER               1 NOV 2010

Mid November and what is happening to the bees? Not much! Well
for once that is okay. It’s that time of year. We all should make a 10
day routine of checking our hives for problems which is mostly food
related or placing the brood and bees closer to a feeder so they can still
feed. We should have already tried to fix weak hives but you may still
move a frame of brood into a cluster if you need to equalize. Hopefully
you have already checked for Mites and did whatever you decided was
the lesser evil. Good luck! It always helps to have a little luck when it
comes to beekeeping.
We will have our next meeting Thursday Nov. 11th at the Farm
Bureau office at 7:00 PM our refreshments will begin at 6:30. This
show and tell night is a chance for you to show your favorite
beekeeping tool or Gadget. Please bring and share with the group.
As I am writing this,  I am also preparing for the State meeting in
Columbia to discuss the upcoming schedule for the Spring joint meeting
with the NC/SC Beekeeping associations in Gastonia, NC in March of
2011. In addition,  I was appointed within the last 10 days by the State
to serve as the Chairman for the Grant Committee. At this meeting we
will be reviewing the list of ideas sent in by associations as suggestions
for research grants. This is our first shot at this and we are realizing that
associations as of now have not really understood the process and we
have only received 10 ideas. However, we as the grant committee will
discuss these and see what we can do to increase participation in the
future.
