PRESIDENTS LETTER November 26, 2009
     Dear Beekeepers,
I hope each of you enjoyed a bountiful feast of healthy food, friends and
family on this THANKSGIVING DAY! I’m sure during the course of the
dinner someone mentioned your bees. I still get a kick out of the many
reactions I receive from people when they find out I’m a beekeeper. It always
prompts remarks like “Grandpa Rob had some bee gums, till he couldn’t get the
worms to leave em alone.”  Naturally the death of the bees was from something
other than the worms which were actually wax moths which are scavengers
after the death. Grandpa Rob didn’t have a bee club or a reference book other
than the Sears and Roebuck Catalog which gave very few details. But for some
strange reason the people who are interested in beekeeping are the ones who try
again and again until they get it right and sooner or later they usually figure it
out. Until something changes. Beekeeping is not easy but it’s very rewarding. It’
s the hobby that offers the perfect gift whether it be passing the art of
beekeeping down to our youth or the jar of honey you give a neighbor
beekeeping is unusual but rewarding. I think we all are excited for the upcoming
bee season and we will surely do our very best as a team to make beekeeping
as fun and enjoyable as possible. I truly have high expectations for the
upcoming 2010 beekeeping season and It will take a little from each of you for
everything to be up and running smoothly so we’ll take each day as it comes
and we’ll be ready when it’s time but right now it’s “Christmas Parade Time”.
THE DECORATING WILL BE SATURDAY DEC.12TH AT 10AM Please
join all other Pickens County Beekeepers and their families December 12th at
10am in the parking lot of Bee Well Honey Natural Market & Bee Supply (205
Hampton Ave.) We will be working together and getting to know each other
better as we decorate our float for the Pickens Parade on December 13th. The
Theme of the float is “
It’s a Sweet Christmas” and will consist of a 28ft flat
trailer which is low and easy for all ages to ride on safely. Feel free to bring a
chair if you wish we should have plenty of room (I’ll tell Santa to drive slowly.)
We will need stuff like duck tape, zip ties, string, snow, garland, ornaments for
the tree etc. so pick up a handful of stuff and let’s get in the spirit of Christmas
BEE AT BEEWELL AT 1:30 ON SUNDAY DEC. 13TH. Feel free to dress
as a Beekeeper if you’d like but naturally your presence is the most important
thing so dress as you wish. Just Bee There!
